New at Natural Food Expo
Gluten free was the operative word again at Natural Products Expo East. But there were more gluten-free whole grains this year, and a lot of novel twists on vegetables. Although all tout the gluten-free moniker, many of the new products also appeal to consumers on Paleo and Raw diets.
Kale, quinoa, Brussels sprouts, and sweet potatoes were among the new stars – – kale chips with spices, and coated in cheese and quinoa in the form of crackers, pilaf blends and pastas. Suzie’s brand was even sampling quinoa milk.
Veggie-Go’s, a spin on fruit leather (beet, apple, sweet potato and flax seed; carrot, apple, and ginger; and berries, spinach and apple) and Yummy Yammy sweet potato salsas were two favorites. At least two companies offered shiratake (no carb – high fiber) noodles, and there were snacks galore. Tortatos (potato and corn in one chip) from R.W. Garcia and Udi’s Ancient Grain Crisps topped my list.
